Grand Rapids, Mich. – Davenport pulled away late to defeat the University of Findlay men's basketball team on Saturday, Dec. 20, winning 83-74 at the DU Student Center. The loss drops the Oilers to 8-4 overall while the Panthers improve to 8-2.
The first half was a back-and-forth battle featuring eight ties and four lead changes. Findlay trailed 35-34 at the break after shooting 39.4% from the field and just 3-for-13 (23.1%) from three-point range. Mason Brandt led the early charge with seven points, including a dunk and a late three-pointer to keep UF within striking distance.
Findlay briefly grabbed a 57-55 lead with 9:52 remaining on a Brandt jumper, but Davenport responded with a decisive 28-17 run to close the game.
The Panthers shot a blistering 70% from the field in the second half, fueled by Ken Walker's dominance at the free-throw line (12-for-12). UF hit 5-of-17 threes (29.4%) after halftime but couldn't overcome defensive lapses and turnovers down the stretch. The Oilers have now gone 16-for-79 (20.3%) from three-point range over their last three games, continuing a troubling trend from beyond the arc.
Findlay finished 28-of-69 from the field (40.6%), 8-of-30 from three (26.7%), and 10-of-11 at the line (90.9%), while Davenport shot 52.9% overall, 31.3% from deep, and 70.6% at the stripe. The Oilers held a 40-32 edge on the glass but committed 12 turnovers.
Brandt led UF with 13 points and seven rebounds, while redshirt freshman Javonte Hill added 13 points and sophomore Alex Kendall chipped in 12.
Findlay is back in Croy Gymnasium on December 30 for a game against the University of Olivet, the final game of the 2025 calendar year. That game tips at 7:00 pm. Findlay's new head football coach, Tyler Johns, will be introduced to the public at halftime of that contest.
