Swimming Kicks Off Annual Calvin Winter Invite with Multiple Program and Meet Records

Grand Rapids, Mich. – The University of Findlay men's and women's swimming and diving teams kicked off the annual Calvin Winter Invite on Thursday, Dec. 4. The men, ranked tenth in the country, are in third of six teams while the women, ranked 11th, are also in third out of six teams.

Men's Results
  • 500 Free – Sebastian Camacho continued to dominate the long-distance swims, winning with a time of 4:19.14 which is an automatic qualifier to the NCAA National Championship and a new program, meet, and pool record. Finishing sixth in that race was Matteo Filippi who met the NCAA B standard with a 4:32.48.
  • 50 Free – Camilo Marrugo took fifth in the finals of the event with a 19.88, but his best time came in the prelims where he swam a 19.53 which is a new school, meet, and pool record and NCAA B cut.
  • 400 Medley Relay – Finishing runner-up was the team of Randy Keener, Arnoldo Guimaraes, Camilo Marrugo, and Juan Blandon Torres with a time of 3:13.02.
  • 200 IM – Randy Keener was a runner-up finisher with a time of 1:47.35, good enough to meet the NCAA B cut.
  • 200 Free Relay – Camilo Marrugo, Juan Blandon Torres, Zein Kawas, and Santiago Arteaga finished third with a 1:20.51.
Women's Results
  • 200 Free Relay – Findlay's team of Troie Grubbs, Hannah Nagel, Olivia Scheibelhoffer, and Emily Mears-Bentley took first place with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 1:31.81.
  • 400 Medley Relay – Meeting the NCAA provisional time was the team of Emily Mears-Bentley, Katie Susi, Olivia Scheibelhoffer, and Troie Grubbs who finished first with a 3:43.48.
  • 50 free – Grubbs was also busy in the 50 free where she took first place with a 23.09. Her qualifying time of 22.97 was even better and set a program, meet, and pool record and an NCAA B cut. Scheibelhoffer was close behind, taking fourth with a 23.73.
  • 200 Freesyle - In a morning time trial, Emily Mears-Bentley went out and swam a time of 1:47.58 which is a new school record and NCAA B cut.
  • 200 IM – Meeting the NCAA B cut was Katie Susi who took second with a time of 2:04.55.
The second day of three day event is tomorrow, Dec. 5.
