Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay wrestling team dominated Thomas More in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) dual on Thursday, Dec. 4 in Croy Gymnasium, earning a 40-7 victory behind several impressive wins.
No. 10 in Division II, Findlay's Billy Smith set the tone at 125 pounds with a 10-2 major decision over Trevor Wilcox, using takedowns in the first and second period to help pick up the win. At 149, Micah Cotrell, after two forfeits by Thomas More, pilied up points in a 15-5 major decision against Nathan Kulbe. AJ Parish then won a tight 5-2 bout over TMU's Thomas Hicks.
The Oilers' biggest statement came in the middle weights. Zachary Taylor delivered a commanding 17-2 technical fall at 174, ending the bout in 5:17 with a series of takedowns and near falls. Moments later, Donavyn Watts dominated at 184 by pinning Zavier Campsey in just 2:31, swinging momentum firmly back to Findlay after Thomas More's lone early win at 165.
Heavyweight Giulian Bodiu, ranked No. 11 nationally, closed the afternoon in emphatic fashion with a pin in only 1:17, overpowering Diego Pelletier from the start.
The Roughnecks will be back on the mats in early January for the Virginia Duals in Virginia Beach, Va.
