Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team had no issue with Ohio Dominican on Thursday, Feb. 13 in Croy Gymnasium, taking down the Panthers by a score of 90-72. UF controlled the game from the opening tip and improved to 19-6 overall with a 12-4 mark in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play while ODU falls to 10-13 (5-10 G-MAC).
Findlay jumped in front early, using a 14-0 run in the opening minutes to take a 14-4 lead. That run spanned just under three minutes and saw the Oilers make 6-of-7 from the floor. That quick scoring would be an example of what was to come.
By the end of the first quarter, UF had a 26-15 lead and had made 10-of-20 from the floor including three triples. All those extra possessions were provided thanks to stifling defense which forced ODU into six turnovers. By halftime, Findlay had a 46-31 lead.
A 9-1 run by the Panthers midway through the third quarter made things a little bit interesting as the visiting team had pulled to within ten at 53-43, but Findlay, playing without its' head coach on the bench due to illness, held off Ohio Dominican and went on to an 18-point win.
On its' way to scoring a season-high 90 points, the Oilers shot 32-of-66, making just four threes. 18 offensive rebounds and 19 forced turnovers were critical as a combined 54 points were scored between second chance points and points off turnovers.
Findlay had six players score in double-figures, led by senior Kate Ellis who poured in 18 points and grabbed six rebounds. With that effort, Ellis now sits in 9th on the Oilers' all-time scoring list with 1,310 points.
Junior Alyssa Ziehler picked up her sixth double-double of the season, her fourth in the last six games, as she scored 13 points and led the team with 11 rebounds.
Senior Janae Hoying, sophomore Taylor Stanley, and senior Chloe Callahan each scored 11 points to go along with sophomore Addisyn Freeman's ten points. Freeman added six rebounds and three assists, putting together an impressive performance.
Sophomore MacKenzie Schulz scored seven points and had five rebounds while sophomore Allie Stockton contributed five points and six rebounds.
Findlay is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 15 with a game against the Kentucky Wesleyan Panthers. That contest will tip off at 1:00 pm.
