Charleston, W. Va. - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team kicked off their season on Saturday, Feb. 15 as they traveled to West Virginia to take on the University of Charleston. This game marked a new era for the Oilers, as it was the first game with head coach Beth Hemminger at the helm. In a very tightly contested match-up, the Golden Eagles would prevail, winning by a score of 8-6. With the loss, the Oilers begin the year with a record of 0-1.
The Oilers would get off to a slow start, as they fell into an early three goal hole with six minutes left in the first quarter of play. Findlay would not back down as a goal by junior Tessa Chuba early in the second would get the Oilers on the board.
The Orange and Black would knot it up at three as Rebecca Chimiel and Karissa Allbright would each score less than two minutes apart.
After three and a half quarters of play the game would be knotted at 6-6 thanks to Chuba's second goal of the day. Chuba, a member of the 100-goal club, recorded goals 101 and 102 of her career in the game.
The game would remain tied until halfway through the final quarter, when the Golden Eagles scored back-to-back goals to put the game out of reach.
Freshman Caroline Weber got the nod in goal for the Oilers, totaling nine saves on the day. Also a freshman, Amelia Dillion recorded her first career goal in the game.
The Oilers will be back in action on Sunday, Feb. 23 when they will take on Slippery Rock University at home for the first time of the year. Action will begin at noon.
