Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay lacrosse team took on Slippery Rock University in a non-conference matchup on Sunday, Feb. 23 at the Armstrong Sports Complex in Findlay, Ohio. The Oilers came away on the short end of a 17-1 score in the team's home opener and fell to 0-2 to start the year. For The Rock, it was the first game of the season.
SRU jumped ahead to a 6-0 lead through the first quarter, a period during which the Oilers managed just a single shot attempt.
Findlay finally got on the board midway through the second quarter when sophomore Karissa Allbright found the back of the net to make the score 7-1. That would be the final goal of the day for UF, however, which surrendered the next ten scores without an answer.
The Rock fired off 42 shots during the game while Findlay had seven. SRU also controlled the ball well, grabbing 32 ground balls to the Oilers' 14.
Allbright had the lone goal and led the team with three shots, two of which were on goal, and had five draw controls. Junior Tessa Chuba had two shots while sophomore Rebecca Chmiel also had two. Chuba added a pair of ground balls. Freshman Josie Owens led the team with a trio of ground balls.
Findlay is back in action on Friday, Feb. 28 when they will take on Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. That game will start at 6 pm.
