Chuba Leads Oilers to First Win of Season at Lewis

Romeoville, Ill.- The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team traveled west on Friday, Feb. 28 as they took on the Lewis University Flyers of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). Findlay led from start to finish to pick up their first win of the season by a score of 11-10. With the win they improve to 1-2 on the season while Lewis falls to 2-2.

Findlay jumped out to an early lead with four straight goals, three coming within the first five minutes. Lewis got on the board at the seven-minute mark with their only goal of the quarter, but the Oilers closed strong, extending the lead to 6-1 behind two goals from junior Tessa Chuba.

Both teams traded three goals in the second quarter, sending Findlay into halftime with a 9-4 lead.

Lewis opened the second half with three straight goals, narrowing the gap to two. Findlay added its final goal just 52 seconds into the fourth quarter, but Lewis responded with a late surge, scoring the last three goals. Despite the rally, the Oilers secured the 11-10 victory.

Chuba powered the Orange and Black with eight goals, matching her career high. She was nearly perfect, scoring on eight of her nine shots, all on target. She also led the team with four ground balls and five draw controls.

Kaitlin Darby, Karissa Allbright, and Rebecca Chmiel each added a goal, with Allbright also securing four draw controls.

Freshman Caroline Weber earned the win in goal, finishing with ten saves for the Oilers.

Findlay will be back in action as they continue their trip west. They will face off against the Maryville Saints on Sunday, March 2 at 12pm.
