St. Louis, Mo. – The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team was in St. Louis for a non-conference game on Sunday, March 2 against the no. 5 Maryville University Saints. The Oilers ended the game on the short end of a 26-1 score and fall to 1-3 overall while Maryville improves to 3-1.
Findlay, the first unranked team that Maryville has played this year, fell behind early and struggled to make up ground as the game progressed. The Saints scored nine goals in the first period and came back with five more in the second, forcing a running clock and taking a 14-0 lead into halftime.
Trailing 17-0, the Oilers finally got on the board when freshman Amelia Dillon scored on an assist from sophomore Rebecca Chmiel.
It was not enough to bring any momentum as MU responded with nine more unanswered goals.
Maryville outshot Findlay 45-to-5 and was a perfect 9-for-9 on clears. The Oilers also struggled to possess the ball at midfield as the Saints won 21 of the 29 draws.
Findlay is back home on Thursday, March 6 for a game against Davenport University. That game will begin at 4 pm.
