Painesville, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's basketball team concluded the 2025 regular season with a trip to Painesville, matching up with the Lake Erie College Storm on Saturday, March 1. Propelled by a big third quarter, the Oilers came away with an 83-64 victory to improve to 20-9 overall and finish with a 13-7 record in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. LEC's 2025 campaign ends with a 4-22 (1-19) record.
For a second consecutive game, the Oilers started fast, taking a 10-3 lead through the first three minutes, ultimately taking a seven-point lead after the first quarter.
The Storm battled back, pulling to within three at 34-31 with only 20 seconds to play in the half, but senior Chloe Callahan, who would finish the day with a career-high, drilled a triple just before the buzzer, extending Findlay's lead to six at the break.
Callahan kept the momentum going in the third quarter, drilling threes on three consecutive possessions to extend the Oilers' lead to 48-35. A couple minutes later she was fouled on a triple try and converted all three free-throws to make the score 56-41. Of the Oilers 26 points in the third quarter, Callahan scored 12.
Findlay kept the Storm at arms length and went on to a convincing 19-point victory.
The Oilers were hot from the floor, hitting 34-of-65 (52%) including 7-of-16 (44%) from three. LEC was held to just 20-of-53 (38%). UF also dominated on the glass, more than doubling up the home team 39-to-18 in rebounds.
Callahan finished the game with a career-high 20 points on 6-of-7 shooting including a career-high five three pointers. Of her 20 points, 15 came in the second half.
Junior Alyssa Ziehler scored 15 points and led the team with nine rebounds while senior Kate Ellis scored ten points and grabbed six boards. Ellis and senior Janae Hoying, who also scored ten points, led the team with four assists.
Findlay now turns its' attention to the postseason where the team has earned the fifth seed in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship Tournament. That event will get started on Tuesday, March 4 with a trip to either Malone University or Northwood University depending on the outcomes of the remainder of Saturday's games.
