Lacrosse Falls in North Carolina Debut

Wilson, N.C.- The University of Findlay lacrosse team went south for a pair of games in North Carolina. Their first match up came against the Barton College Bulldogs of the Conference Carolinas on Wednesday, March 12. A slow second half haunted the Oilers, giving them a 12-6 loss. With the loss, Findlay falls to 1-7 on the season while Barton improves to 5-3 on the year.

Barton got off to a fast start, scoring the first four goals of the contest, all of which came in the first six minutes of the opening frame. The Oilers answered back, scoring three goals to end the quarter, two of which came from freshman Cora West.

Trailing 4-3, Findlay tied the game at 5-5 eight minutes into the second quarter. Barton added one final goal in the last two minutes of the half, taking a 6-5 lead into the break.

Barton outscored Findlay 6-1 in the second half. Findlay's lone goal of the half came from sophomore Rebecca Chmiel.

Findlay's offense was led by junior Tessa Chuba. The attacker recorded three goals on five shots. She also picked up four ground balls and had three draw controls. 

Freshman Cora West added to goals for the Orange and Black while Chmiel chipped in one.

Freshmen Caroline Weber and Josie Owens split time in the goal. Both allowed six goals while Weber made five saves and Owens made three.

Findlay will conclude their trip south against the University of Mount Olive on Friday, March 14. That game is scheduled for 4pm.
