Oilers Sweep Ursuline to Begin G-MAC Play

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay softball team was back in action on Tuesday, Mar. 18 for their Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opener against Ursuline College.  The Oilers would take both games in the doubleheader, winning the first with an eighth inning walk-off before taking the second by way of a run rule.  With the two wins, Findlay raises their record to 15-5 overall and 2-0 in conference play.  Meanwhile, Ursuline drops to 3-15 overall and 0-2 in conference.

Game 1 (4-3)
The Orange and Black would start the first game of the day hot, adding two runs in the bottom of the first inning.  Annika Bredel would get the Oilers on the board first with an RBI double, followed by an RBI single Anna Jones.  Findlay would continue the scoring into the second inning, when junior Kora Navarro sent a solo blast over the center field wall.

A pitching change from the Arrows would slow down the Oilers offense, as they would go five scoreless innings following the three run outburst to begin the game.

Looking to get themselves back into the game, the Arrows would do just that, scoring two runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to knot the game at three.

After a couple scoreless innings, the Oilers would start the bottom of the eighth with a walk to Aurora Lescody.  A sacrifice bunt from Anna Jones would put the winning run into scoring position, making way for Navarro, who would walk it off for Findlay with a hard hit ball to left center.
Earning the win for the Oilers was Kayla Dykin, who would come into the game in the seventh inning and pitch two scoreless innings.  The junior would only allow one hit and record two strikeouts.

Game 2 (10-0)
After taking the first game in extras, the Oilers would leave no doubt in the second, dominating from the first pitch on and taking a run rule victory.  Leading the charge for the Findlay offense was Alexys Antal, who would finish with four hits on the day.  All four of these hits would be for extra bases, as the junior recorded one triple and three doubles.

Building off of her strong performance in the first game was Navarro, who would add two hits and four RBIs in the game, including her second homer of the doubleheader.  These two long balls marked the first two of her collegiate career.

Pinch-hitting in the bottom of the sixth inning, Hannah Baker would end the game with a two out, two run blast over the left field wall.  The game-winner would mark the first home run of the senior's career.

Quick Stats
Kayla Dykin was dominant all day in the circle for the Oilers, earning two wins on the day and bringing her season record to 6-0.  After closing out the first game, the junior would start the second, going five strong innings.  She would give up zero runs and only two hits, while striking out seven Ursuline batters.

Also with a strong showing was Aurora Lescody, as the junior recorded three hits on the day.  With the three hits she has continued her strong start to the season and raised her batting average to .333.

The Oilers will be back in action on Friday, Mar. 21 for a doubleheader match-up against Tiffin University.  The game will be back at Anderson Field for the first time this year, with first pitch slated for 2 pm.
