Lacrosse Dominates in G-MAC Opener at Malone

Canton, Ohio – The University of Findlay lacrosse team opened up Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play on Thursday, March 20, taking on the Malone University Pioneers on the road. The Oilers led at the half, but closed with a strong fourth quarter to secure a decisive 13-5 victory. With that win Findlay is now 2-8 on the year while Malone drops to 5-4.

Malone led 2-1 early in the first, but goals by freshman Cora West and junior Tessa Chuba put the Oilers back in front.

Sophomore Rebecca Chmiel scored early in the second and four minutes later, a goal from freshman Kaitlin Darby made the score 5-3. That score would remain going into the half.

Findlay then turned on the offense, scoring three goals in the third and five more in the fourth, the second-highest scoring quarter of the season.

Chube led the way for the Orange and Black, scoring six goals with a pair of assists. It is the second time this season that she has score more than five goals in a game. She also had six ground balls, five caused turnovers, and seven draw controls.

Freshman Eloise Kolofer had a pair of goals to go along with single goals by Darby, West, freshman Breeann Talabac, freshman Amelia Dillon, and Chmiel.

Freshman Josie Owens got the win in the net, playing the first half at goalie and making one save.

The Oilers dominated the possessions, firing off a season-high 38 shots to just 10 for Malone. Findlay also won 16 of the 21 draw controls.

Findlay returns to action on Saturday, March 22 when they take on the Walsh Cavaliers on the road. That game will begin at 1:00 pm.
