Oilers Drop Two vs Yellow Jackets

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay baseball team was back in action on Friday, Mar 21 for the first of two in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) series match-up with Cedarville University.  It was a tough day for the Oilers, as they would drop both contests on the day.  With the results, Findlay falls to 8-11 overall on the year and 1-3 in conference play.  Meanwhile, Cedarville sees their record rise to 11-11 overall and 4-2 in conference.

Game 1 (11-8)
In the first game of the day, there was no shortage of hits on both sides of the ball.  The Yellow Jackets would record 17 hits, while the Oilers would end the game with 11.  Despite the result, it would be Findlay who would get on the board first, as Casey Maruniak would score on a Keelan Daniel single and throwing error by the Cedarville shortstop.  This error from the Yellow Jackets would be their first of four in the game.

Cedarville, who fell victim to a 34 run drubbing from the Oilers last spring, would respond right away with four runs of their own in the top of the second inning.  The Yellow Jackets would benefit from four hits in the inning, including two doubles.

The middle innings of the game saw both teams trade a couple runs apiece.  The game looked to be well in hand for Cedarville heading into the bottom of the ninth, but the Oilers refused to go down to a fight.  A Daniel double to right center followed by two walks loaded the bases and brought the winning run to the plate for Findlay.  Unfortunately for Findlay, junior Aiden Booth would be retired on a called third strike, as the umpire deemed that he leaned into a hit by pitch, ending the ball game.

Dylan Rouse would suffer the loss on the bump for the Oilers, as the junior would go 2.1 innings and allow five runs.  Rouse would also finish with six hits given up and one strikeout on the day.

Game 2 (4-10)
The second game of the day was no different for Cedarville, as they reached double digit hits once again with ten.  The Yellow Jackets would get on the board first in the top of the second on a passed ball, taking a 1-0 lead.  The Oilers would respond with three runs in the third thanks to a two RBI single by Maruniak and a Cedarville wild pitch.

Unfortunately for the Oilers, the rest of the game would be dominated by the Yellow Jackets.  They would score four runs in the top of the fourth and five in the top of the fifth to ultimately put the game out of reach of the Orange and Black, giving Cedarville the 10-4 victory.

Quick Stats
Leading the Oilers offensively was Theo Winings, as the junior recorded two hits on the day.  He would record his first home run of the year along with a double in the first game of the day.

Also with a strong showing was Keelan Daniel, who also recorded three hits on the day.  The junior would also have a home run and double in the first game.

Up Next
The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 22 for the last two games of the series.  First pitch will take place at 1 pm.
