Ray and Hefner Headline Indoor Track & Field All-Conference Awards

Indianapolis, Ind. – The Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) announced its' postseason awards for the indoor track and field season on Tuesday, March 25. The University of Findlay men's and women's teams earned 17 all-conference spots including nine on first team and eight on second team. Findlay also earned the Women's Track Athlete of the Year which was earned by graduate student Kylie Ray. In addition, Kage Hefner was named Men's Freshman of the Year.

Kylie Ray has earned Women's Track Athlete of the Year after an indoor campaign that included multiple podium finishes at the NCAA DII National Championship in Indianapolis. Ray won individual G-MAC titles in both the 400m and 4x400m relay, events that propelled her to the national stage just two weeks later. In Indianapolis, the Pickney, Mich. performed beyond expectation in the 400m dash where she trimmed a half second off her prior personal best to earn a sixth-place finish in the event, snagging first team all-American honors. She followed that up in the 4x400m relay where she helped lead her team to a runner-up finish with a school record time of 3:37.30.

Freshman Kage Hefner put together an outstanding regular season in pole vault before his postseason efforts were ended due to injury. Hefner won three pole vault events this indoor season including the Findlay Alumni Classic, the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic, and the Flag City Tune-Up. His best mark came at the Hillsdale Wide Track Classic where he cleared a height of 5.18m (17'00"), a mark that would end up being ninth-best in the country, qualifying him for the NCAA National Championship in the event. Unfortunately, prior to the G-MAC Championship, he was injured and unable to compete at either the conference or national meets.
