Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Sweeps Malone on Day One

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay baseball team was back in action on Friday, Mar. 28 for the first two games of a weekend series with Malone University.  Looking to build off their two wins last weekend to close their series against Cedarville, the Oilers would do just that, taking both games of the doubleheader.  With this pair of wins, Findlay has raised their win streak against the Pioneers to 13 games, not dropping a game since 2022 against them.  The Oilers record now stands at 12-11 overall and 5-3 in conference play.  Meanwhile, the Pioneers drop to 10-15 overall and 2-8 in conference.

Game 1 (8-6)
With both teams looking to get their offense going, that's just what would happen, as both teams would put runs up on the board in the first inning.  A pair of doubles would help Malone put up two, while an RBI groundout from Theo Winings allowed the Oilers to get back within one.

The Pioneers would add two more in the top of the third after a two-run home run cleared the left field wall.  Findlay would respond, however, with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to make it a 5-4 ballgame in favor of the Oilers.  The RBIs would come from Aiden Booth and Mason Myers singles, along with a Mike Sciortino double.

Malone would once again respond in the fourth, adding two more runs off of Findlay starter Logan Bragg.  The graduate student would end the day going four innings, giving up six runs and striking out four.

After Findlay tied the game in the bottom of the fourth, both teams would go the next three innings looking to break the tie.  The difference would come in the bottom of the seventh, when RBIs from Casey Maruniak and Keelan Daniel would give the Oilers a two run advantage.

Shutting the door on the hill for Findlay would be Colin Becker and Camdon Tuttle.  Becker would enter the game in the fifth in relief of Bragg, and would shut down the Malone offense in his three innings of work.  The junior would go three innings and rack up four strikeouts.  Earning the two inning save was Tuttle, as the freshman would allow no hits and record one strikeout on his way to recording his fourth save of the year.

Game 2 (5-1)
The Oilers would remain hot in the second game of the day, scoring two runs in the first inning from a Winings bloop single.  They would add another in the second when Nick Palm ripped a single up the middle to give Findlay an early 3-0 lead.

The big blow would come in the bottom of the third, when Luke Senften and Aiden Booth would hit back to back solo home runs to take the wind right out of the Pioneer sails.  This would be Senften's third long ball of the year, while Booth recorded his first of the season.

Dominant on the mound was Ethan Mohr, who would go five strong innings on his way to picking up his second win of the year.  He would only allow one run on two hits, also picking up five strikeouts.  Closing out the last two innings would be freshman Sebastian Stevens, along with Tuttle, who made his second appearance of the day.

Quick Stats
Having a strong day at the plate was freshman Mason Myers, who recorded three hits in the first game.  He would also finish his day with four runs scored and two walks.

Also with a strong showing was Aiden Booth.  The sophomore finished his day with three hits, including the first home run of his season.

Up Next
The Oilers will be back tomorrow, Saturday, Mar. 29 for the last two games of the series.  First pitch will be at 1 pm.
