Baseball Completes Series Sweep of Malone for Third Consecutive Season

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay baseball team was back in action on Saturday, Mar. 29 for the last two games of their series with Malone University.  Needing two wins to complete the sweep, the Oilers would do just that, raising their winning streak to six games.  The Orange and Black see their record rise to 14-11 overall and 7-3 in conference play.  Meanwhile, the Pioneers drop to 10-17 overall and 2-10 in conference.

With the two wins, the OIlers have now rattled off 15 consecutive wins against the Pioneers with the last loss coming in March of 2022. This is the third consecutive season that Findlay has swept Malone in a four-game series.

Game 1 (11-7)
Looking to build off their two wins yesterday, the Oilers would do just that, coming out hot in the first game of the day.  Findlay would burst out for six runs in the bottom of the second to take the lead.  After scoring two by way of a hit by pitch and wild pitch, they would add four more from a pair of RBI doubles from Mike Sciortino and Keelan Daniel.

The Oilers would not let up, adding three more runs in the bottom of the fifth after Nick Palm and Austin Adelman recorded RBI singles.

The Pioneers would finally break through with four runs in the top of the six, benefiting from a triple that was laced to the center field wall that made the score 10-5.

Findlay starter Carson Mellott finished his day with six innings pitched.  The junior would allow five runs on seven hits, also striking out five on his way to earning his second win of the year.

Going into the seventh with a six-run lead, the Pioneers managed to shrink the lead to four.  With two outs and a couple Malone runners on, freshman Camdon Tuttle was once again called on to finish the job.  Tuttle would get a ground ball to end the game and record his fifth save of the season.

Game 2 (10-4)
In the last game of the day, the Oilers turned to Dylan Rouse to try and earn the weekend sweep.  Both teams would get runs in the first inning, as Malone would get one and Findlay would respond with two of their own thanks to a Maruniak no doubt homer and a hit by pitch from Aiden Booth with the bases loaded.

After Malone added one more to tie it up, the game would remain knotted at two till the bottom of the fourth.  The Oilers would break the tie with four runs, thanks to RBIs from Sciortino, Maruniak, and Daniel.  They would add two more in the bottom of the next inning, making the score 8-2.

Both teams would trade runs for the next few innings, leaving the score at 10-3 going into the final frame.  Closing the door would be Sebastian Stevens and William Rouse, who would record the last out of the contest against his former squad.

Quick Stats
Once again with a strong day for the Oilers was Mason Myers.  The freshman had four hits and four hits, along with four walks.
