Softball Rebounds with Convincing Game Two Victory After Tough Loss at The Spring Games

Clermont, Fla.- The University of Findlay softball team competed at the annual Spring Games on Friday, March 7, at the Legends Way Complex, facing Glenville State in the morning and California-Pennsylvania in the afternoon. The Oilers earned a split, losing 2-0 in the first game before bouncing back with an 8-0 run-rule victory in the second. With the split, Findlay now stands at 9-3, Glenville State improves to 6-4, and California-Pennsylvania drops to 3-12.

Game One vs. Glenville State (L 2-0)
Findlay, whose offense has been a strength all season, struggled against the Pioneers, managing just one hit over seven innings. That lone hit belonged to junior Aurora Lescody who singled to left field in the top of the fourth.

In a quiet offensive game, the Pioneers broke through in the fourth with a two-run homer, securing the win.

Senior Emma Jones took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits while striking out a season-high five and walking one. She now holds a 3-2 record on the season.

Game Two vs. California- Pennsylvania (W 8-0)
Unlike the opener, the Oilers found their rhythm at the plate, securing a run-rule victory over the Vulcans in the fifth inning.

After a quiet start, Findlay broke through in the third. Junior Alexys Antal got things started with a double to center, followed by a walk to junior Annika Bredel, putting runners on first and second. A flyout by sophomore Joslynne Frazier advanced Antal to third, where she later scored on a catcher's throwing error. Another miscue by the Vulcans brought Bredel home, giving the Oilers a 2-0 lead.

Findlay added two more runs in the fourth to take a 4-0 lead and then broke the game open with a four-run fifth inning.

Lescody led off with a single to shortstop, and a fielding error allowed sophomore Makayla Cook to reach base, advancing pinch-runner Anna Jones. Junior Keeley Murray followed with a single up the middle, bringing Jones home to make it 5-0. Another error loaded the bases, but a fielder's choice resulted in an out at home. With the bases still loaded, Annika Bredel hit a double down the left field line, clearing the bases and securing the 8-0 run-rule victory for Findlay.

Junior Kayla Dykin earned the win in the circle for Findlay, improving to 2-0 on the season. She pitched all five innings, giving up five hits, striking out three, and issuing no walks.

Offensively, the Oilers were paced by Bredel, who went 2-for-3 with a three-RBI double. Antal was perfect at the plate, finishing 3-for-3 with one RBI.

Next Time Out

Findlay resumes play on Sunday, March 9, facing Winona State at 9 a.m., followed by an 11:30 a.m. matchup against Minnesota Duluth.
