Oilers Drop Two vs Chargers

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay Oilers were back in action on Saturday, Apr. 12 for the first two games of their weekend series with Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) foe Hillsdale College.  In a pair of close match-ups, the Oilers would drop both games, as they have now lost their last seven.  Findlay now stands at 15-18 overall and 7-9 in conference play.  Meanwhile, Hillsdale raises their record to 19-16 overall and 12-6 in conference.

Game 1 (8-12)
In the first game of the day the Chargers would come out red hot, scoring 12 unanswered runs in the first five innings of play.  With the help of 15 hits and three Oiler errors, Hillsdale was able to jump about this large lead.

Despite the 12 run hole, the Oilers would refuse to go down with a fight.  In the fifth inning, the Oilers would finally get on the board with an RBI single from Mike Sciortino.  In the next three innings, Findlay would score three runs twice and also add one more inning with one run, cutting the Hillsdale lead to 12-8 through eight innings. This eight run outburst would be highlighted with a two run home run from Luke Senften and a two-RBI double from Casey Maruniak

The comeback would fall short for the Oilers, as they would go down in order in the ninth, giving the Chargers the four run victory.

Game 2 (1-4)
After a nearly three and a half hour first game, the second game would fly by, only lasting for about an hour and a half.  It would be a pitcher's duel in this one, with Findlay's Ethan Mohr and Hillsdale's Gibson Cary dueling it out.  After three scoreless innings on both sides, the Chargers would finally break through for four runs in the top of the fourth inning.

The Oilers would load the bases in the bottom of the fourth, but would only scratch one across on a Tyler Blair sacrifice fly.  The rest of the game would go scoreless, ending in a 4-1 victory for Hillsdale.

Despite taking the loss on the mound, Ethan Mohr had a solid showing.  The junior would go seven innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits.  He would have no walks and strike out four.

Up Next
The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow, Sunday, Apr. 13 for the last two games of the series with the Chargers.  First pitch will once again be at 1 pm.
