Game Recap: Baseball |

Oilers Rally vs Dragons | Split Day One

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay baseball team was back in action on Thursday, Apr. 17 for the first two games of their series against Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) rival Tiffin University.  In a pair of competitive ball games, both teams would come away with one win.  With the split, the Oilers now stand at 18-19 overall and 10-10 in conference play.  Meanwhile, the Dragons move to 16-23 overall and 8-14 in conference.

Game 1 (9-14)
There was certainly no shortage of offense in the first game of the day, with both teams both reaching double digit hits.  Along with 23 runs scored in the game, there would also be seven home runs in the contest.  It would be the Dragons getting on the board first, as two runs in the top of the second pushed them out to an early lead.

The Oilers would respond in the bottom of the third, as Mike Sciortino would double home Mason Myers to make the score 2-1.  Findlay would benefit from the long ball in the fourth, with Ryan Thompson leaving the yard to lead-off the inning and Austin Adelman roping a two run shot just three batters later to give the Oilers a 4-2 lead.

After tying the game in the top of the fifth, a grand slam with two outs in the sixth would give Tiffin the momentum right back.  Findlay would threaten in the seventh, but a bases loaded double play would cut the comeback effort short and hold the Orange and Black to just two runs in the inning.

The Dragons would put up five runs in the eighth, putting the game out of reach.  Despite the deficit, Mike Sciortino and Gavyn Smith would both record solo home runs, leading to a final score of 14-9 in favor of the Dragons.

Game 2 (4-3)
In the second game of the day, it would once again be the Dragons who would grab the lead first, leading 2-0 through the top of the third inning.  Looking to continue his strong day at the plate, senior Austin Adelman would do just that, as he laced a two run shot over the left field wall to even the game up at two in the bottom of the third.

The game would remain tied until the bottom of the fifth, where once again it was Adelman who would come through for the Oiler.  The senior would double home Aiden Booth, who reached on a hit by pitch to make the score 3-2.  With two outs in the same inning, Sciortino would come through with a single back up the middle to bring home Adelman and extend the lead for the Oilers.

Findlay would turn to Camdon Tuttle to begin the sixth inning, looking for the lockdown freshman to complete the two inning save.  After surrendering one run in the sixth, Tuttle would be lights out in the seventh, setting the Dragons down in order to record his seventh save of the year and give the Oilers a 4-3 victory.

Quick Stats
Leading the offense was Adelman, who finished with three hits on the day.  All of these would be for extra bases, as the senior finished with two home runs and a double.  Adelman would also finish his day with five RBIs and three runs scored.

Also with a very strong day was Sciortino, as he finished his day with four hits.  The junior recorded his first collegiate home run in the first game, along with totaling four RBIs in the double header.

Coming in clutch all season long, freshman reliever Camdon Tuttle once again slammed the door for the Oilers.  The freshman earned his seventh save of the season, now just four shy of the single season record of 11, which was set by Josh Robinson in 2018.
