Oilers Homer Six Times | Sweep Day Two vs Dragons

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay baseball team was back in action on Friday, Apr. 18 for the last two games of their weekend series with Tiffin University.  Today's contests had a little bit of everything, including 50 hits, 45 runs, nine homers, and even a pair of ejections.  Amidst all of the chaos, the Oilers would come away with two big wins, earning a series win.  With the doubleheader sweep, the Oilers now stand at 20-19 overall and 12-10 in conference.  Meanwhile, the Dragons fall to 16-25 overall and 8-16 in conference.

Game 1 (17-11)
The first game of the day would be a true marathon, with 28 total runs scored on 27 hits.  After just two full innings of play the score stopped at 11-6 in favor of the Oilers.  Findlay would score three runs in the first inning, coming from Casey Maruniak and Gavyn Smith RBI singles, along with a Luke Senften sacrifice fly.

The Oilers offense really got off and running in the second, as homers from Smith, Aiden Booth, and Austin Adelman lead to an eight spot being thrown up on the scoreboard.

Tiffin would add two runs in the fourth and three more in the sixth, but a no doubt three run blast from Maruniak would put the game out of reach.

Battling the hitter friendly conditions, Carson Mellott would go 4.1 innings on the hill for the Oilers on his way to earning his fourth victory of the season.  Mellott would allow five earned runs on eight hits, also striking out six Dragon batters.

Game 2 (12-5)
The Oilers offense would not skip a beat in the second game of the day, once again coming out firing on all cylinders.  Despite being down three runs after the top of the first, the Oilers would answer by scoring 11 runs in the first four innings of play.  Contributing to this run for Findlay was Nick Palm, Adelman, and Senften who all recorded RBI doubles.  Booth would have an RBI single and a two run home run, his second of the day.

Looking to add some insurance, Ryan Thompson left the yard on a monster shot to left field in the bottom of the seventh, putting the game out of reach with an exclamation mark.

Earning the win on the mound was Sebastian Stevens, as the freshman would go five innings allowing five runs on the way to picking up his first collegiate victory.  Stevens would also add six strikeouts to finish his day.  Impressive in relief was fellow freshman Caden Ammon.  He would throw four scoreless innings in relief, only allowing three hits and striking out four.

Quick Stats
Leading the Oilers offense was Aiden Booth, as the sophomore would break out for two home runs on the day, bringing his season total to three.  The sophomore would finish with five RBIs, also scoring three runs.

Mike Sciortino and Luke Senften would both finish with four hits apiece, while Nick Palm would finish with a team leading five to finish his day.  Palm and Sciortino would both record two RBIs, while Senften would finish with four.

Also finishing with strong days at the plate was the junior duo of Gavyn Smith and Casey Maruniak.  They would both record a home run on the day, as Smith would tally four RBIs while Maruniak added five.

Rounding out the red hot Oilers offense was Austin Adelman.  The senior was on a tear all weekend long, as he added a double and his third home run of the series in the final day of play.
