Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Lacrosse Falls 12-11 in Battle for G-MAC Regular Season

Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team lost by a score of 12-11 on Saturday, April 19 at the hands of the Ashland University Eagles. With one conference loss on the year, the Oilers needed a win to claim a share of the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) regular season title, but it was the Eagles who came away with the victory, remaining unbeaten in league play. That defeat wraps up the regular season for Findlay who finishes with a 7-10 record on the year and a 6-2 mark in G-MAC play while Ashland improved to 12-5 overall and 8-0 in the conference.

Ashland came out firing at the start of the game, scoring the first three goals of the game. Early in the second, a fourth goal made the score 4-1 in favor of the Eagles.

However, the Oilers did not go away quietly as the home team roared back in the back half of the second frame. Four unanswered goals by Findlay, three of which were scored by junior Tessa Chuba, put the Oilers in front 5-4 with just over two minutes to play in the half. A pair of quick scores by Ashland would haunt Findlay as AU took a 6-5 lead into halftime.

That late swing in momentum held as Findlay would not have a lead for the remainder of the game, although the score would remain tight down the stretch.

Three times in the third quarter the Oilers would pull to within a goal, but each time Ashland answered, keeping UF at arms length.

Trailing 11-8 heading into the fourth, a pair of goals by Cora West and one more by Karissa Allbright again brought the Orange and Black to within one, but it was not enough as the clock ran out and sent Ashland home with the G-MAC regular season crown.

The game was as even as can be. Ashland had 31 shots with 19 on goal while Findlay had 30 shots with 18 on goal. Ashland had one more turnover than Findlay, 22-to-21, but did win three more draws at 15-to-12.

Chuba and West each had three goals for the Oilers. Chuba added five ground balls, three caused turnovers, and three draw controls.

Eloise Kolofer and Rebecca Chmiel each had two goals and Allbright led the team with seven draw controls.

Findlay will now move on to the postseason where it will play host to a quarterfinal game on Saturday, April 26 in Findlay, Ohio. The opponent is yet to be determined.
