Florence, Ind. - The University of Findlay women's golf team was back in action on Thursday, Apr. 24 for the first day of play in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) championship. Just like their peers on the men's team, this event took place at Belterra Golf Club in Florence. Originally scheduled for 36 holes, day one was cut short approximately halfway through the second round due to storms in the area. Battling the delays and less than ideal conditions, the Oilers finished the first day of play in first place, coming in with a score of just two over. This score of two over is 19 strokes higher than the second place Dragons from Tiffin University.
Leading the charge for Findlay is standout Mary Kelly Mulcahy. Through 28 holes of play, she sits at a very impressive five under, placing her first in the field. Mulcahy fired a four under 67 in the first round, recording five birdies and just one bogey. The only thing that could cool Mulcahy off would be the inclement weather, as she would go for three straight birdies before the weather brought the round to a halt.
Also with a very strong showing was Erin Mulcahy, who currently sits in second place. The senior finished the first round with a score of 70, recording birdies on 17 and 18 to bring her score to one under. Battling tough conditions in the second round, she sits at even par through 29 holes.
