Florence, Ind. - The University of Findlay women's golf team was back in action on Friday, Apr. 25 for the final day of stroke play in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) championship. Coming into the day with a 19 stroke lead, the Oilers continued their strong play, ending the stroke play portion of the event with a 25 shot lead. Findlay has secured the high seed in the medal match play finale, as they will be taking on Tiffin University tomorrow morning.
It would be
Mary Kelly Mulcahy once again leading the charge for the Oilers, as she took home the G-MAC individual title. It was a historic day for the senior, as a number of both conference and school records were shattered with her play today. Mulcahy finished with an eight under 205, which broke the conference championship record and the school 54 hole record, which was held previously by both her and Gabby Woods at 207. She has also set the record for the highest margin of victory in the conference championship with her eight stroke advantage, surpassing Makenzie Torres who took it home for the Oilers in 2018 by six strokes. This is Mulcahy's 13th tournament victory, further cementing her place in Findlay golf history. Last but not least, Mary Kelly took home the Elite 26 Award, given to the player with the highest overall GPA within the conference championship qualifying teams.
All five of the Findlay players would end in the top ten on the leader board, as the team finished eight over through the three rounds of play.
Erin Mulcahy would finish in third place, earning all-confernce honors with her sister. The senior finished round three with a three over 74 to bring her total score to two over.
Ashleigh Duflo finished in sixth with a score of seven over. Right behind her was
Hayley Dye and
Ellie Yeazell, who finished in seventh and eighth respectively.
The Oilers will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday Apr. 25 for the medal match play portion of the tournament. In this format, players on each team will be going head to head, needing to win at least three matches to claim the title. The Oilers will be taking on Tiffin University, with the first tee time set at 8 am. Having already won their eighth straight individual title, Findlay will be looking to capture their eighth straight team title as well.
