Oilers Split Day Two | Take Series Over Storm

Tiffin, Ohio - The University of Findlay baseball team was back in action on Sunday, Apr. 27 for the last two games of their series with Lake Erie College.  With both games being decided by just one run yesterday, today's games were just as competitive.  The Oilers would take game one 6-5 to secure the series before the Storm would take the finale by a score of 4-6.  With the split, Findlay now sits at 23-21 overall and 15-11 in conference play.  For the Storm, they are now 20-23 overall and 12-16 in conference.

Game 1 (6-5)
In the first game of the day, it was the Storm who would strike first, pushing across four runs in the bottom of the second inning.  The Oilers would cut the lead in half by scoring one run in the fourth and fifth innings, these runs coming from a Gavyn Smith sacrifice fly and a Garrett Given homerun.  For Given, he now has two home runs in his freshman campaign.

Down two runs in the final frame, the Oilers would get four huge runs to take a 6-4 lead.  RBI singles from Austin Adelman, Mike Sciortino, and Luke Senften would be the reason for the last inning rally.

As to be expected with a two run lead in the final frame, in came freshman Camdon Tuttle.  He would work around a lead off home run and secure three straight outs to give the Oilers yet another one run victory. Closing the door once more, Tuttle has earned his ninth save of the season.

Earning the win on the hill for the Oilers was Carson Mellott, as the junior would go six strong innings allowing four runs.  He would also strike out four while only issuing one walk.  For Mellott, he now has a team-leading five wins on the season.

Game 2 (4-6)
Once again in game two, the Storm would get on the board first, pushing across four runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to a three run home run and RBI triple.

The Oilers would break into the scoring column in the top of the third, as Smith brought in Nick Palm with a sacrifice fly.  However, the Storm would respond with two runs in the fourth to extend their lead to 6-1.

Desperately needing a rally, Findlay would push across three runs in the top of the sixth to cut the Lake Erie lead to just two.  The Oilers would benefit from an RBI double from Theo Winings and an RBI single from Austin Adelman.  These three runs would be the last for the Orange and Black, as they would be held scoreless in the final three frames to drop the series finale.

Quick Stats
Leading the charge offensively for the Oilers was Luke Senften, who finished with five hits on the day.  The sophomore also added an RBI and a stolen base to conclude his strong offensive weekend.

Coming off his Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) player of the week performance last week, Austin Adelman recorded a pair of hits in the doubleheader.  The senior has now extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

Up Next
The Oilers will be back in action on Tuesday, Apr. 29 when they travel to Bowling Green State University to take on the Falcons in a midweek contest.  First pitch will be at 3 pm.
