Bowling Green, Ohio - The University of Findlay baseball team traveled to Bowling Green on Wednesday, Apr. 30 to take on the Falcons for their last midweek game of the season. Despite a very close and competitive ballgame, the Oilers would ultimately fall by a score of 6-3. With the loss, Findlay now sees their record stand at 23-22.
The scoring would get started early in this one, as the Falcons would score in the bottom half of the first inning to jump out to an early one run lead. However, this would not rattle the Oilers, as they would respond immediately in the top of the second with two runs of their own to take a 2-1 lead. The Orange and Black would score on a RBI double from Gavyn Smith and a sacrifice fly from Mike Sciortino.
The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the fourth, when the Falcons used some two out magic to string some hits together and put three runs on the board to retake the lead.
Fast forward to the top of the sixth, the Oilers would cut the lead to just one after a two out RBI single from Aiden Booth would score Luke Senften, who singled to lead off the inning.
Unfortunately for Findlay, insurance runs from Bowling Green in the seventh and eighth innings would put the game out of reach, and put the score to its eventual final of 6-3. Despite the defeat, the Oilers refused to back down to the division one Falcons, even out hitting them ten hits to nine.
Leading the offense was Senften, who continued his hot streak at the plate with a 3-4 day, the sophomore designated hitter also added two runs scored to his credit.
As typically seen during a midweek contest, it was a total staff effort on the mound, as eight pitchers would throw one inning for the Oilers. Juniors Connor Evanich and Jacob Howard would both throw scoreless frames, along with freshman Kole Maxwell and Spencer Mueller, who did just the same.
The Oilers will be back in action on Friday, May 2 for their last weekend series of the year. They will travel to Midland to take on Northwood University. First pitch will be at 1 pm.
