Midland, Mich. - The University of Findlay baseball team was back in action on Saturday, May 2 for the first two games of their weekend series against Northwood University. The Oilers, who recently secured their third straight berth into the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) tournament, would drop both games in the doubleheader. With the pair of losses, Findlay sees their record drop to 23-24 overall and 15-13 in conference play. Meanwhile, Northwood rises to 30-18 overall and 24-6 in conference.
Game 1 (2-8)
In the first game the Oilers would strike first, as in the top of the second
Michael Russ would bring in
Aiden Booth on an RBI groundout and give them an early 1-0 lead. The Timberwolves, however, would respond immediately with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning on a pair of RBI doubles.
The Oilers would get one more run in the top of the fifth, as
Nick Palm would single to bring home
Austin Adelman, who got on by way of a double into the right center gap. This would be the last Findlay run of the game, as Northwood would add two runs in the seventh and eighth innings to put the game out of reach.
Getting the start on the hill in game one was
Carson Mellott, as the junior would go six innings and allow four runs on his way to ultimately taking the loss. He would finish his day with seven strikeouts.
Game 2 (2-7)
Once again, it was Findlay who got on the board first in the second game of the day.
Ryan Thompson, who reached on a single, scored on a first and third situation following an error from the Northwood pitcher. Thompson would finish this game with two hits, joining
Nick Palm as the only two Oiler hitters to have a multi hit game.
As in the first game, the Timberwolves offense could not be contained, as they would score runs in the second, third, fourth, and sixth innings to once again put the game out of the reach of the Oilers. Findlay would add one in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from
Garrett Given, but that would be all they would get, once again being held to just two runs.
