Baseball Swept by Ashland

Ashland, Ohio - The University of Findlay baseball team was back in action on Sunday, Apr. 6 for their last two games of their Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) weekend series with Ashland University. On a very chilly and windy afternoon, the Oilers would drop both games, completing the sweep for the Eagles.  With the losses, Findlay drops to 15-15 overall and 7-7 in G-MAC play.  Meanwhile, the Eagles moved to 23-8 overall and 14-2 in conference play.

Game 1 (L 5-0)
In the first game of the day the Eagles' bats would heat up early, using a double and a triple to jump out to a 4-0 lead through three innings.  They would also go on to add one more run in the fourth thanks to a bases loaded hit by pitch.

The Oilers would struggle to get going offensively, only recording four hits in the game.  Two of these hits would come from reigning G-MAC North Division Player of the Week Luke Senften, who singled twice in the ballgame.

Carson Mellott would take the loss on the mound for the Oilers, going four innings and allowing five runs.  The junior issued four walks and struck out three.

A bright spot for the Oilers in game one would be freshman JJ Hartman, who would throw two innings of shutout ball in relief.  He would work around two walks and record three strikeouts.  Hartman has only allowed one hit and no runs in his five innings of work so far this season.

Game 2 (L 10-3)
Like the first game of the day, the Oilers would be unable to overcome a hot start from the Eagles.  After just two innings of play, Findlay found themselves in a 6-1 hole. The Eagles would get to the Oilers starter Dylan Rouse early, as the sophomore would be relieved after 0.2 innings of work.

A two-RBI triple from Keelan Daniel would bring the score to 3-7 in favor of the Eagles, but one run in the seventh and two more in the eighth from Ashland would put the game out of reach.  This would push the score to the eventual result, 10-3.

Leading the Oiler offense in the game would be Daniel, as he was the lone hitter to record two hits.  Along with a double and a triple, the junior finished with two RBIs and a walk.
