Findlay, Ohio – The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team escaped with an 8-6 victory on Sunday, April 6, defeating the Lake Erie College Storm in a Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) contest. The Oilers scored five second half goals to earn the win and improve to 5-9 on the year with a 4-1 record in conference play. LEC drops to 1-13 overall and 0-6 in the G-MAC with the defeat.
Junior Tessa Chuba go the Oilers on the board first with a goal just over two minutes into the game, but three consecutive goals by the Storm put the visitors in control midway through the second quarter. Findlay would tie the game up at three with a goal by sophomore Rebecca Chmiel.
Lake Erie scored with six minutes left in the half and would go into halftime with a 4-3 lead, the second time this season the Storm have had a lead at the midway point.
The Oilers then locked in as goals by sophomore Karissa Allbright, sophomore Kaitlin Darby, and freshman Amelia Dillon put UF in front 6-4.
Early in the fourth, the Storm made it close, scoring two unanswered goals to tie the game at six, but a goal by freshman Cora West put the Oilers in front. With 1:06 to play in the game, Chmiel scored to cement the win for UF.
Allbright and Chmiel each scored two goals and a pair of caused turnovers. Allbright had four ground balls and Chmiel had five.
Cora West snagged five draw controls to go along with one goal and one assist.
Findlay is back in action on Saturday, April 12 when they travel to take on Thomas More. That game will start at 1:00 pm.
