Baseball Splits with Northwood to Conclude Series | Onto G-MAC Tournament

Midland, Mich. - The University of Findlay baseball team was back in action on Saturday, May 3 for their last two games of the regular season.  Facing off against Northwood University, Findlay would earn a split on the day.  With today's results, the Oilers end regular season play with a 24-25 overall record, with a 16-14 record in conference play.

Game 1 (7-4)
Looking to erase from memory the results of yesterday's games, the Oilers would get off to a fast start on day two.  An RBI single from Luke Senften, followed by a two RBI triple from Gavyn Smith in the top of the third gave the Orange and Black an early 3-0 lead.

After the Oilers would add one more in the fourth on an error, the Timberwolves would respond with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game back up.

The game would remain scoreless until the top of the seventh, when the Oilers would rally for three runs.  RBI singles from Mike Sciortino, Gavyn Smith, and Ryan Thompson would be the cause of this three run outburst, putting the game on ice and giving Findlay the 7-4 win.

Earning the win on the hill was Carson Tuttle.  The freshman, who has been stellar all year long, would throw 3.2 innings in relief while only allowing one run on four hits.  He would only issue one free pass and strike out three on his way to earning his third win of the year.

Game 2 (3-10)
In the final game of the series, the Northwood bats would once again catch fire, scoring runs in all but one inning on their way to putting up a ten spot.

Findlay would manage to put up three runs, with the first coming in the top of the fourth on an Aiden Booth RBI single. The next two would come one inning later, as Gavyn Smith would record a two RBI double.  Smith would lead the offense, finishing with four hits and five RBIs to his credit on the day.

Up Next
The Oilers now turn their attention to the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) tournament, as they wait for the remainder of the conference games to finish up before the bracket is released.  The tournament will take place at Prasco Park in Cincinnati and begins on Wednesday, May 7.
