Preview: NCAA DII Softball Regional Championship

The Tournament
The University of Findlay softball team has advanced to the 2025 NCAA Division II Softball Championship for just the second time in program history. 

Findlay is matched up in the first round against the fifth-seeded Drury University Panthers out of the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC). The tournament will begin on Thursday, May 8 in University Center, Michigan. 


Opposite the Oilers and Panthers is the host Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals, who will play the eighth-seeded Ferris State University Bulldogs. The four-team, double-elimination tournament will conclude on Saturday, May 10 with the winner advancing to play a best-of-three series against the winner of the region's other pod that includes the host (2) Tiffin University Dragons taking on (7) the University of Indianapolis Greyhounds and (3) the Hillsdale College Chargers vs. (6) the Lewis University Flyers.

The 16 teams advancing from regional competition will then participate in a two-team, best-of-three super regional at eight sites. The finals will include the eight super regional winners. The national champion will be determined in a best-of-three final series.

The Oilers stand at 33-14 on the season and are making their second appearance in the NCAA Division II Tournament. In their first NCAA Tournament during the 2022 season, the Oilers made it to the regional final before being upended by Grand Valley State University in the championship game.


As a team, the Oilers are hitting .290 with 27 home runs. Defensively, the Oilers led the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) with a .968 fielding percentage, which ranks 40th in the nation.


Key Players

Junior Annika Bredel, named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Player of the Year Watchlist, is a standout leader for the team. A first-team all-conference selection in each of the last two seasons, Bredel currently leads the squad with a .378 batting average and a .483 on-base percentage. She has recorded 54 hits, including 17 doubles, one triple, and six home runs. A major threat on the base paths, she has stolen 20 bases in 22 attempts, ranking third in the conference. With 19 career home runs, Bredel sits third all-time at the University of Findlay, just three shy of the school record. Her 46 runs scored this season rank third in the G-MAC and is also the third-most in school history for a single season.

Sophomore Anna Jones has emerged as a key contributor this season, providing a reliable presence at the plate with a .353 batting average. She has tallied 42 hits, including four home runs.

Fellow sophomore Joslynne Frazier has also been a consistent force offensively, splitting time between designated player duties and infield roles for the Oilers. The first team all-conference selection leads the team with seven home runs and 33 runs-batted-in.

Pitching Staff

Junior Kayla Dykin leads Findlay with an impressive 1.10 ERA, a 13-4 record, and 69 strikeouts over 89.0 innings. A first team all-conference pick this season, Dykin is allowing a mere .166 batting average to opposing hitters and has also racked up a pair of saves.

Senior
Emma Jones, who leads the team with 109.1 innings pitched, enters the tournament with an 11-6 record and 68 strikeouts. Her 252 career strikeouts rank sixth in program history.

The Oilers' third key pitcher is junior
Alexys Antal. Antal sports a 7-4 record with a 4.20 earned run average.

The Cardinals are 43-12 on the season and are coming off of a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) championship. They are ranked 20th in the nation overall and have scored 354 runs, the 13th-highest total in NCAA Division II.

Key Players

Sophomores Aalana Kimble and Ella Reifschneider along with juniors Olivia Elliott and Jenna Morse were all named first team all-conference this season. Kimble is batting .363 with 43 runs scored while Reifschneider is hitting .358 with 40 runs scored. Elliott meanwhile smacked 10 home runs to go along with 42 runs-batted-in while Morse stole 21 bases and scored 40 runs.
Additionally, sophomore Kenzie Bromley has proven to be a threat at the plate with a team-high 14 home runs. The second team all-conference pick also has a team-high 49 runs-batted-in.

Pitching Staff

Junior Macy Irelan leads the team and was selected as the 2025 GLIAC Pitcher of the Year. On the season, Irelan has a 19-3 record with a 1.12 earned run average. She also has 217 strikeouts in only 149.2 innings of work.
Kimble has also been a standout in the circle for the Cardinals and has an 18-5 record with a 2.52 earned run average.

Drury Panthers (33-21) | #5 Seed

The Panthers are 33-21 on the season and were the top-seed in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) Tournament. As a team, they are hitting .281 with 250 runs scored this season.

Key Players

Junior Sophia Luetticke was a first team all-conference selection for the Panthers and leads the squad with a .382 batting average. She has been a major threat on the basepaths, swiping 49 bases on the year, the third-best total in the country.

Senior AJ Agers was also a first team all-conference pick and hit .294 with five home runs and a team-best 29 runs-batted-in.


Pitching Staff

Agers leads the pitching staff with an 11-7 record and 2.52 earned run average while sophomore Jordyn Foley has posted a 10-8 mark with a 2.96 ERA.

Ferris State Bulldogs (28-19) | #8 Seed

The Bulldogs are 28-19 on the year and had five players earn all-conference honors. As a team, the Bulldogs have scored 227 runs and stolen 97 bases, the 37-highest mark in the country.

Key Players

Sophomore Alexis Kozlowski leads the team and has recorded a .367 batting average to go along with four home runs and 42 runs-batted-in. The first team all-conference pick has also scored 30 runs.

Sophomore Emma Gillard has also had a strong season at the plate with ten doubles, five triples, two home runs, and 28 runs-batted-in.


Pitching Staff


Sophomore Cecelia Bell, a second team all-conference pick, leads the staff with a 10-8 record in 125.2 innings of work while junior Catherine O'Donohue has posted a 9-4 mark in 94.0 innings.
