Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Belcher Leads Findlay to Five Set Win Over Central Missouri

Grand Rapids, Mich - The University of Findlay women's volleyball team was back in action on Saturday, Sep. 13 for their last game in the Hampton Inn and Suites Grand Rapids Downtown Classic.  Facing off against Central Missouri, Findlay would come away with the victory in a five-set thriller.  The Oilers earn a weekend sweep in the event, raising their record to 5-1 to begin the season.  Meanwhile, the Jennies fall to 4-2.

The Oilers would get off to a slow start in this one, dropping the first set by a score of 15-25.  The first set would be close early on, but with the score 11-13 in favor of the Jennies, they would go on a four-point run to put the set out of reach.

Sets two and three were extremely competitive, as neither team would break away by more than four points.  The two teams would trade 25-23 victories, with Findlay taking the second and Central Missouri coming away with the third.

The Oilers would have a dominant set win of their own in the fourth, as two kills and a block from Makenna Belcher would close out a 25-15 set win.

Findlay would get off to a fast start in the final set, as a Jenna Leugers service ace would give the Orange and Black a 7-2 lead.  The Jennies would not back down, however, shrinking the lead to just one after a service ace to make the score 13-12.  Two straight attack errors by Central Missouri would end the game, giving Findlay an electric five set victory to seal the undefeated weekend.

Leading the Oilers all day long was Belcher who finished with a game high 27 kills.  This number puts the senior in a tie for ninth all time in single game kills.  Current assistant coach Hannah Tong holds the record with an impressive 31 kills back in 2014.

Leading the team in hitting percentage was Abria Lomax, who finished her day with eight kills.

Senior Alana Pohlman reached a milestone in this one, surpassing 1,000 career after finishing with 12 in the game.

Fellow senior Emma White also had an impressive day, as she finished with 60 assists and two service aces.  White is currently fourth all time in program history for assists.

The Oilers will be back in action on Friday, Sep. 19 for their first home game of the year.  They will take on Tiffin at 7 pm to open conference play.
