The Game
The Oilers are 2-0 to start a season for the second consecutive year and are now heading into Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play with some positive momentum. Having the lead when the clock hits 00:00 is what matters and for the Oilers, that is exactly what happened last week as the team improved to 2-0 heading into G-MAC play. While the 7-3 win against Wanye State may not jump off the page, it was a defensive masterclass by Findlay which allowed its' fewest points in a game in two years. That came as a result of a pair of critical stops in the fourth quarter that included a goal line stand and an interception inside the Oilers' own ten yard line.

That defense is led by senior Sam Weihrauch who leads the team and ranks third in the G-MAC with 17 tackles following a ten-tackle performance against Wayne State. Findlay's captain linebacker has not made fewer than five tackles in a game since his freshman year and will be playing in his 35th game this Saturday. Fellow linebacker Kevin Henderson has also been all over the field, collecting 12 stops and an interception through two games this year.

Quarterback Chase Harrison is settling into the offense in his debut season with the Orange and Black. To date he has completed 28-of-40 passes (70%) for 333 yards and two touchdowns. He has been targeting senior Bryan Hunt with regularity as the Oak Park, Illinois native has 12 receptions, nine more than the next closest receiver on the team. His 146 receiving yards through two games rank third in the conference.

On the ground, sophomore Christian Davis has been the lead back, picking up 136 yards on 21 carries, two of which have ended in six points. Graduate senior Jayden Farmer leads the team with 24 carries and has 66 yards and a score.

About the Opponent – Lake Erie College (0-2, 0-0 G-MAC)
A program that has not had a winning season since 2009, Lake Erie may have found some stability in the form of head coach David Price who is now in his second full season as the leader of the Storm. He came to Painesville in 2024 after five years as a defensive coordinator at Tiffin where he helped turn the Dragons into a perennial conference contender. A squad that has just 18 wins in the last ten full seasons combined, Lake Erie is looking for its' first win of the 2025 campaign after dropping its' first two games of the year.

LEC, playing its' first four games at home this season, opened up in Painesville with the defending national champion and top-ranked team in the country, the Ferris State Bulldogs. The Storm scored first, returning a fumble 90 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter. FSU went on to score 63-unanswered points, however, beating the Storm 63-6. In its' second game, Lake Erie had a 28-14 lead at one point and led by a touchdown through three quarters, but the Wheeling Cardinals, a 6-5 team last season, came away with a 35-31 win, a heart breaker for the Storm.

Quarterback Brady Clark is charged with running the Storm offense this season and, through two games, has completed 32-of-60 passes for 352 yards and two scores. He has thrown a pair of interceptions in each game so far this season and has been sacked eight times.

Clark's top target early in the year has been his junior tight end Devin Morgan. The Toledo, Ohio native has made nine receptions for 121 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Curtis Thomas has a pair of receptions for 84 yards this year, but has already shown explosive potential, scoring his lone touchdown of the year on a 93-yard reception in the third quarter against Wheeling, the second-longest pass play in conference history.

On the ground, senior Nick Mosley will handle a bulk of the carries for LEC. Against Ferris State, Mosley had 11 carries for -2 yards but followed that up with an impressive 17 carry, 171 yard performance against Wheeling the following week. That included a 75-yard touchdown run in the first quarter against the Cardinals. Freshman Julian Means-Flewellen will share the load out of the backfield as this season he has 24 carries for 94 yards.

Defensively, linebacker Kemari Ward, a grad student who came to LEC after four years at American International, leads the team with 13 tackles including 2.5 tackles-for-loss. Defensive backs Debonair Brown and Chris Payne are two of the leading tackles from a year ago and are again going to play a critical role in the Lake Erie defense in 2025. The duo has combined for 18 tackles already this season.
