Cedarville, Ohio - The University of Findlay men's soccer team was back in action on Thursday, Sep. 18 for their Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) opener against no. 15 Cedarville. A late goal from the 15th ranked Yellow Jackets would ultimately give them the win. With the loss, the Oilers drop to 1-3 on the year and 0-1 in conference play. Meanwhile, the Yellow Jackets rise to 3-0-2 overall and 1-0 in conference.
The first half of play would be a stalemate, as neither team would crack the scoreboard. There would only be two shots on goal in the half, both shots coming from Cedarville and turned away by Findlay keeper
Keegan Grant.
The tie would finally be broken in the 65th minute, as the Yellow Jackets would find the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead. The Oilers would respond quickly, however, as in the 72nd minute they would respond with a goal of their own. Scoring for Findlay was
Tom Middleham, with an assist from
Tyler Pawlicki. For Middleham, he now has goals in two straight games.
The dagger in this one would come in the 84th minute, as Cedarville would once again score to take a late 2-1 lead and secure the victory.
Carson Oberski, who is coming off the first G-MAC player of the week award, would lead the team with three shots in the contest.
The Oilers will be back in action on Saturday, Sep. 20 for their first home match of the year. They will take on Kentucky Wesleyan at 4 pm.
