Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay wrestling team earned one of its biggest wins of the season Friday, January 16 in Croy Gymnasium, taking down No. 20 Indianapolis 22-18 in a tightly contested dual that wasn't decided until the final bouts.
Early in the night Findlay's Nate Knowlton scored five critical points with a 21-5 tech fall victory that put the Roughnecks up 8-0 at the time.
Trailing by six with two matches remaining, the Roughnecks turned the momentum at 197 pounds, where Ronnie Thomas III delivered the night's defining performance. Thomas dominated Noah Clouser from start to finish, piling up takedowns across all three periods on his way to a 19-7 major decision. The bonus-point victory erased the deficit and set Findlay up for a winner-take-all heavyweight bout.
At 285 pounds, Giulian Bodiu wasted no time sealing the upset, pinning Elijah Hinshaw in just 24 seconds to send Niekamp Arena into a frenzy.
Findlay opened the night strong, taking early wins at 125, 133 and 165 pounds to build a 12-5 lead. Indianapolis rallied in the middle weights, earning victories at 141, 149, 157, 174 and 184 to move ahead 18-12 entering Thomas's match.
The Roughnecks return to action on Sunday, January 18 when they play host to No. 8 McKendree. That dual will begin at 1:00 pm.
