Oilers Surge Late | Take Down Tiffin 71-62

Tiffin, Ohio— The University of Findlay women's basketball team battled back from a halftime deficit and used a dominant final quarter to defeat the Tiffin University Dragons 71–62 on Wednesday, January 8 in G-MAC play at the Gillmor Student Center. The victory moves the Oilers to 6–7 overall and 2–4 in the conference, while the Dragons drop to 7–7 and 2–5 in league action.

Findlay trailed 15–14 after the opening quarter and spent most of the second period playing from behind. The Oilers briefly grabbed a 25–22 lead midway through the frame when junior Allie Stockton connected on a transition three-pointer and senior Alyssa Ziehler converted a fast-break layup on the next possession.

Tiffin answered with a 15–5 run to close the half and carried a 37–30 lead into the locker room.

The Oilers shot just 29 percent in the second quarter, while Tiffin hit 53 percent of its attempts to build the seven-point margin.

Findlay began to swing momentum out of the break. Down 37–32 early in the third, junior Taylor Stanley knocked down a three in transition, and moments later Stockton buried another to put the Oilers ahead 38–37 at the 7:31 mark — their first lead since early in the second quarter.

The teams traded the advantage four more times before senior Ariyah Douglas hit a late three-pointer to trim the Tiffin lead to 48–47 heading into the fourth. Stockton scored seven points in the period as Findlay outscored the Dragons 17–11.

The Oilers took over for good in the final 10 minutes. Trailing 50–49, Ziehler scored on back-to-back post touches to make it 53–50 with 8:24 remaining. Stockton followed with a layup and free throw to extend the gap to 56–52, and the Oilers never trailed again. Findlay outscored Tiffin 24–14 in the quarter while holding the Dragons to 26 percent shooting and 0-for-7 from beyond the arc.

Free throw shooting sealed the result down the stretch. The Oilers went 8-for-12 at the line in the final 1:34, including four makes from Stockton and three from junior Addisyn Freeman.

Ziehler paced all scorers with 23 points on 10-for-16 shooting to go with 12 rebounds, while Stockton added 19 points and provided key perimeter scoring during the third-quarter push.

Findlay returns to action on Saturday, January 10, when they travel to take on G-MAC opponent Malone University at 1 p.m. in Canton, Ohio.
