Oilers Sweep Kentucky Wesleyan for Fifth Straight Win

Owensboro, Ky. - The University of Findlay volleyball team took on Kentucky Wesleyan for the first game of their four game road trip to conclude regular season play on Friday, October 30. The Oilers were in control from the opening rally, defeating the Panthers in straight sets. Findlay took set one by a score of 25-19, before winning sets two and three with scores of 25-14 and 25-20. With the win, the Oilers have now won five straight contests and stand at 15-8 overall, including 10-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. Meanwhile, Kentucky Wesleyan falls to 5-19 overall and 1-11 in conference play.

The Oilers dominated the stat sheet, hitting at a .320 clip while only collecting eight errors. On the other end, the Panthers managed a hitting percentage of just .094 and finished with 23 errors. A large contributor to this lopsided affair can be seen in the block totals, as Findlay recorded eight blocks on the night while Kentucky Wesleyan ended with zero.

The Orange and Black shared the wealth on the offensive end, with Hannah Miller and Lauren Foerster would lead the team with seven kills in the match. Finishing just behind them would be Stephanie Smith, tallying six kills to end her night.

Keira Turek and Victoria Mescher made the most out of their opportunities, both finishing with four kills on five total swings.

Findlay was also able to take advantage on the serve, accumulating 10 aces in the three set affair. Miller led the team with three, while Mescher and Kirsten Bomholt each had two.

On the defensive end, freshman libero Claire Schoenberger led the team with 14 digs. Abria Lomax was a force at the net, amassing a season high five blocks. Lily Barhorst also made her presence felt, finishing with four blocks.

The Oilers will continue their road trip tomorrow, October 31, when they travel to Thomas More to take on the Saints. The match is slated to begin at 5:30 pm.
