Women’s Basketball Win Streak Ends in Road Battle at Northwood

Midland, Mich. — The University of Findlay women's basketball team faced a tough road challenge against conference leader Northwood University on Wednesday, February 12, falling 67–53 inside Riepma Arena. The Oilers move to 14-9 overall and 10-6 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference play, while the Timberwolves improve to 19-5 (15-1 G-MAC).

Northwood opened the game with back-to-back fast-break layups, but Findlay quickly responded. A three-pointer from junior Taylor Stanley and interior baskets from junior Ella Mescher helped the Oilers keep pace in a competitive first quarter. Findlay trailed just 15–13 after ten minutes, shooting 31.6% from the field.

The second quarter proved pivotal. Northwood extended its lead by attacking the paint and converting in transition, while Findlay struggled offensively. The Oilers shot just 2-of-18 (11.1%) in the period and scored only six points, allowing the Timberwolves to take a 29–19 lead into halftime.

Northwood pushed its advantage to 14 early in the third quarter, but Findlay delivered its strongest stretch of the night in response. Senior Alyssa Ziehler scored repeatedly inside, and junior MacKenzie Schulz knocked down timely perimeter shots as the Oilers erupted for 23 third-quarter points on an impressive 9-of-11 (81.8%) shooting.

Senior Ariyah Douglas added a key three-pointer late in the frame to cut the deficit to six heading into the fourth quarter.

Despite the momentum shift, Northwood regained control in the final period. The Timberwolves capitalized on turnovers and converted at the free-throw line, outscoring Findlay 18–11 in the fourth. Northwood finished with 19 fast-break points and 21 points off turnovers, turning defensive pressure into offense throughout the contest.

Ziehler led the Oilers with 12 points and 10 rebounds for her third consecutive double-double, including six offensive boards. Douglas provided a spark off the bench with 10 points, including two three-pointers, while Schulz added nine points. Findlay received 18 points from its bench and scored 22 points in the paint.

For the game, the Oilers shot 33.3% from the field and 26.1% from three-point range, while Northwood shot 45.3% overall and went 16-of-19 from the free-throw line.

Findlay will look to regroup as conference play continues Saturday, February 14, when the Oilers travel to Columbus, Ohio, to face Ohio Dominican at 1 p.m.
