Oilers Throw Combined No Hitter in Season Opener vs. IUP

Tridelphia, W. Va.- The University of Findlay softball team opened the 2026 season on a strong note on Friday, Feb. 20, earning a decisive 6-0 shutout over Indiana University of Pennsylvania at the Highlands Sports Complex in the Highlands Classic. The win gives the Oilers their first victory of the year, while the Crimson Hawks fall to 0-2 early in the season.

The Oilers struck first in the bottom of the opening inning, taking an early 1-0 lead. Senior Alexys Antal led off with a walk, and a hit by senior Annika Bredel brought her around to score the game's first run.

Findlay's offense broke through in the second inning, plating three runs to extend the lead to 4-0. Sophomore Kenzie Woods ignited the rally with a hit, and senior Jenna Poulson followed with an RBI double to left field that scored Woods. Later in the frame, sophomore Meghan Heinsman delivered an RBI single to center, bringing Poulson home.

In the third inning, Findlay kept the momentum going, adding the final two runs of the game to build a commanding 6-0 lead.

Bredel led the offensive charge, going 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Poulson and freshman Jenna Dee added steady support with two hits each. Antal, Woods, senior Aurora Lescody, and Heinsman also recorded base hits, as Findlay totaled 11 hits on the day.

In the circle, starting pitcher Antal earned the win, tossing four scoreless innings without allowing a hit and striking out two. Senior Kayla Dykin closed out the game to earn the save, throwing the final three innings and preserving the shutout with three strikeouts. The duo of Antal and Dykin, which each have individual no-hitters in their career, combined for the eighth no-hitter in the NCAA era of the program. It's the first time in program history that Findlay pitching has tossed a no-hitter in a season opener.

Findlay returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Highlands Classic with a morning matchup against West Liberty followed by an afternoon game against No. 15 Indianapolis. First pitch is set for 10 a.m., with game two scheduled for 12:30 p.m. All contests will be streamed on Mountain East TV.
