Strong Second Half Lifts Oilers Past D’Youville

Buffalo, N.Y.- The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team hit the road Friday, Feb. 27 for a spring break trip to New York. Facing D'Youville for the second consecutive season, the Oilers once again came away with the victory, defeating the Saints 14-9. With the win, Findlay improves to a perfect 2-0 to start the season, while D'Youville drops to 0-1.

Findlay battled in a tightly contested first half, exchanging goals with the host team and heading into the break tied 5-5. The Oilers came out of halftime with renewed energy, using a decisive third quarter to seize control of the game. Findlay scored six goals in the period while limiting D'Youville to three, building a lead they would not relinquish.

The Oilers continued to apply pressure in the fourth quarter, adding three more goals to secure the victory. Overall, Findlay finished with 25 shots, including 22 on goal, showcasing an efficient offensive performance. The defense also stood strong down the stretch, holding D'Youville to just one goal in the final period to close out the win.

Junior Rebecca Chmiel led the Orange and Black with a dominant performance, scoring five goals on nine shots on goal. The Morgantown, West Virginia native also caused three turnovers and collected two ground balls. Sophomore Mylee Cain provided strong support offensively, adding three goals on four shots on goal. Sophomore Cora West and junior Karissa Allbright both recorded two goals apiece. 

Sophomores Caroline Weber and Josie Owens shared time in goal, with Owens earning the victory. Weber made four saves in her stint, while Owens stopped six shots.

Findlay will return to action tomorrow to conclude its New York trip with a matchup at Daemen. The contest is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
