Late Push Not Enough as Oilers Drop Road Contest at Daemen

Amherst, N.Y. - The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team fell 7–4 on the road Saturday, Feb. 28, dropping a nonconference contest at Daemen. With the loss, the Oilers move to 2–1 on the season.

Findlay struck back early after conceding the game's first goal, as freshman Carrigan McCormack converted a man-up opportunity midway through the opening quarter to even the score at 1–1. However, Daemen closed the period with a goal and carried a 2–1 advantage into the second quarter, then added another tally before halftime to build a 3–1 lead at the break.

The third quarter proved decisive, with Daemen scoring three times in a span of just over three minutes to extend the margin to 6–1. The hosts added another early in the fourth quarter to push the lead to six before Findlay mounted a late rally.

The Oilers responded with three goals in the final eight minutes, beginning with a free-position strike from sophomore Mylee Cain. Sophomore Cora West later found the net off an assist from junior Rebecca Chmiel, who followed with an unassisted goal less than a minute later to cap the scoring at 7–4.

Findlay was outshot 16–10 and committed 20 turnovers compared to 15 by Daemen, though the Oilers were efficient on clears, successfully converting 9 of 13 attempts.

Chmiel led Findlay offensively with a goal and an assist while also recording four shots. In goal, Caroline Weber made five saves in a complete-game effort.

Findlay will aim to get back in the win column on Wednesday, March 4, traveling to Lebanon, Illinois, for a road contest against McKendree.
