Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Lacrosse Falls on the Road to McKendree

Lebanon, Ill.- The University of Findlay lacrosse team continued their road stretch of games to open the season, this time to Illinois to take on the Bearcats of McKendree University on Wednesday, March 4. The second half was costly for the Oilers who ultimately fell 17-5 on Wednesday afternoon.

The University of Findlay women's lacrosse team battled on the road but ultimately fell 17-5 on Wednesday afternoon. The Oilers found themselves in an early deficit as the home team scored the first two goals of the contest before junior Rebecca Chmiel got Findlay on the board midway through the opening quarter. The Oilers quickly tied the game when Carrigan McCormack scored on a player-up opportunity with three minutes remaining in the first period. However, the Bearcats rattled off three consecutive goals in that time to take a three goal lead heading into the second quarter.

Findlay continued to fight in the second. McCormack scored twice more in the period, first finishing an even-strength goal off an assist from Amelia Dillon before completing the hat trick with another power-play strike assisted by Chmiel to bring the score to 6-4. Despite the push from the Oilers, the home team pulled away with a large run spanning the remainder of the second and third quarters. Findlay added one more goal late in the fourth quarter when Karissa Allbright converted on a player-up opportunity, but it was not enough as the Oilers dropped the contest 17-5.

Freshman Carrigan McCormack led the way for Findlay, recording a career-high three goals in the contest. Rebecca Chmiel and Karissa Allbright also found the back of the net for the Oilers, each adding a goal.

Senior Emaly Garrett paced the team defensively with three ground balls, while sophomore Mylee Cain controlled the draw with a team-high two draw controls.

In goal for the Orange and Black, sophomores Caroline Weber and Josie Owens split time between the pipes. Weber took the loss after allowing ten goals in the first half while making five saves. Owens played the second half, allowing seven goals and recording five saves of her own.

Findlay will return to action on Friday, March 6 as they continue their six-game road stretch with a matchup against Quincy. Opening draw is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
