The Oilers

As the University of Findlay swimming and diving teams return to Canton for the 2026 G-MAC/MEC Championships, the program brings a quiet confidence built on years of consistent results. The men's squad enters the week looking to extend a streak that includes eight consecutive conference championships, while the women's team aims to secure their fourth straight title. The standard has been set high by recent performances, most notably a 2025 campaign where the Oilers captured 34 of the 38 swimming titles. In fact, on the men's side, the Oilers have won 61 consecutive races in the pool, not losing in a single swimming event at the meet since 2022.

Findlay's men and women, ranked No. 9 and No. 13 in the country, respectively, come into the week with high hopes yet again and there is no reason to doubt what these two teams can accomplish. Wearing the Orange and Black are some of the best swimmers in the country including the three-time defending women's Athlete of the Year, Emily Mears-Bentley, and the reigning men's Athlete of the Year, Randy Keener. Along with those two, a host of others who have garnered all-American and all-conference awards at a stifling pace.

There are 38 races that will take place this week in Canton and of those 38, the Oilers are the favorite, having posted the top seed times, in 34 of them.

The heavy-hitters on the men's side include Keener, Camilo Marrugo, and Matteo Filippi, all three of which have great experience at this meet. Marrugo has been a beast in the sprint group, dominating the 50, 100, and 200 freestyles and anchoring the relays since his breakout season in 2023. While Marrugo controlled the sprints, Matteo Filippi locked down the distance events, evolving from the 2023 Freshman of the Meet into the 2025 Swimmer of the Meet with a three-peat in the 1650 freestyle. Completing the trifecta is Randy Keener, who has owned the backstroke events, defending his 200-yard title and adding the 100-yard crown in 2025 to ensure the Oilers haven't lost a single race at the conference meet in three years.

On the women's side, the three-peat conference championship run has been defined by the versatile brilliance of Katie Susi and Emily Mears-Bentley. Susi has established herself as the undisputed breaststroke champion of the G-MAC, capturing the 200-breaststroke title for three consecutive years and earning Co-Swimmer of the Meet honors in 2024. Complementing her is the speed of Mears-Bentley, who has followed a perfect trajectory from 2023 Freshman of the Year to 2025 Swimmer of the Meet. She has become one of, if not the, most valuable female swimmer in the country, boasting several top-five times across multiple events.
