Findlay, Ohio - The University of Findlay softball team hosted Parkside at Findlay High School on Sunday, March 15. The Oilers dropped the opener 10-6 before bouncing back to take game two, 10-8.
Game 1 (L 10-6)
Parkside jumped out to a 2–0 lead in the first before adding two solo home runs in the third inning to extend the advantage to 4–0. Findlay finally got on the board in the bottom half of the inning when junior
Joslynne Frazier singled home senior
Alexys Antal to get the Oilers on the board.
Frazier struck again in the fifth, launching a solo home run to center field to cut the deficit to 4–2. However, Parkside pushed across a run in the sixth and erupted for five runs on seven hits in the seventh inning to take control of the contest.
Findlay mounted a rally in the bottom of the seventh. Senior
Annika Bredel opened the inning with a solo home run, and junior
Anna Jones followed later with a two-run double to right center. Freshman
Sophie Retton added an RBI single as the Oilers scored four runs in the frame, but the comeback fell short.
Frazier led the Findlay offense with two hits and two RBI, while Bredel and Jones each drove in runs. In the circle,
Alexys Antal took the loss after allowing four runs in three innings, while freshman
Kaylynn Carter and sophomore
Taylor Post combined to pitch the remainder of the game.
Game 2 (W 10-8)
The Oilers jumped out to an early lead when
Annika Bredel launched a solo home run in the first inning. Findlay added another run in the second on Bredel's sacrifice fly before extending the lead in the fourth.
Joslynne Frazier delivered a key two-run triple down the right field line, giving Findlay a 4–2 advantage.Â
Parkside responded with a six-run fifth inning to take an 8–4 lead
The Oilers answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning.
Sophie Retton drove in a run with a single before
Alexys Antal followed with an RBI groundout. Frazier then tied the game with a two-run single to center field, evening the score at 8–8.
Findlay regained the lead in the sixth when
Anna Jones blasted a solo home run to center field. Later in the inning, Retton drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home another run and extend the lead to 10–8.Â
Senior
Kora Navarro earned the win in relief, tossing three strong innings and allowing just one run to close out the victory. Offensively, Frazier led the Oilers with four RBI, while Bredel and Jones each homered in the win.Â
With a pair of home runs,
Annika Bredel set a new program record for career home runs at Findlay, breaking a mark that had stood since 2013.
The Oilers move to 15-6 overall and will begin G-MAC conference play at home on Friday, March 20 against Malone.
