Richmond, Ky. – The University of Findlay women's golf team opened play on Sunday, March 15, at Boone's Trace National Golf Club in Richmond, Kentucky, hosting the Findlay Spring Invitational. The event features a strong field including No. 4 Findlay, No. 10 Grand Valley State, No. 23 Lincoln Memorial, and No. 32 Missouri–St. Louis, along with several regional and Great Midwest Athletic Conference opponents.
The tournament format is unique, as each five-player team competes together in a single group for all 54 holes of the event.
The Oilers were the only one of five teams to complete all 36 holes on Sunday, posting rounds of 305 (+17) and 304 (+16) to sit at +33 overall. Grand Valley State sits in second place with rounds of 303 (+15) and 308 (+20), placing them +35 overall.
Senior Ellie Yeazell led the Oilers during the opening day, carding a first-round 73 (+1) before following with a 77 (+5). Sophomore Avery Thompson also turned in a strong performance, recording rounds of 75 (+3) and 73 (+1). Thompson sits in second place individually, just one stroke behind the leader through 16 holes.
Sophomore Gracie James finished the day with rounds of 78 and 77 (+13), while junior Ashleigh Duflo rebounded from an opening-round 82 (+10) to shoot a 75 (+3) in the second round.
Senior Hayley Dye rounded out the lineup with rounds of 79 and 80 (+15).
Competing as individuals for the Oilers were Mia Ringger, who shot rounds of 74 and 85, and Emma Myers, who finished the day with rounds of 92 and 77.
The Oilers will return to the course on Monday, March 16, to finish the last 18 holes of the event.
