Monroe, North Carolina- The University of Findlay women's golf team opened their spring championship season Monday, March 9, at the Jerry Surratt Memorial Intercollegiate hosted by Wingate University in Monroe, North Carolina. The No. 4 Oilers sit tied for third place after 36 holes at 9-over par, posting rounds of 295 (+7) and 290 (+2).
The highly competitive tournament features eight of the top 10 ranked Division II women's teams in the country. Host school No. 1 Wingate University leads the field at 9-under par, holding an 11-stroke advantage over No. 2 Dallas Baptist University at 2-over.
Senior
Hayley Dye led the Oilers on day one, carding rounds of 72 (E) and 70 (-2). She sits at 2-under for the tournament and in fifth place individually. Junior
Ashleigh Duflo followed closely behind with rounds of 72 (E) and 71 (-1), placing her at 1-under and seventh individually.
Sophomore
Avery Thompson contributed steady rounds of 75 (+3) and 74 (+2). Sophomore
Gracie James finished with rounds of 76 (+4) and 79 (+7), while senior
Ellie Yeazell posted rounds of 77 (+5) and 75 (+3).
Competing as individuals for the Oilers were freshman
Emma Myers (80, 75) and junior
Audrey Keplar (79, 79).
The Oilers will return to the course Tuesday, March 10, for the final round of play.
