Preview: Great Midwest Men's Basketball Championship

The Tournament
The 2025-26 Great Midwest Men's Basketball Championship returns for its 13th edition, which began with the conference's inaugural season in 2012-13. The eight-team tournament field is determined by a point-rating-system that awards value to teams win/loss records based on their opponents and quality of play. Quarterfinal action will be held Tuesday, March 3, with four games hosted by the higher seeds. Winners advance to the semifinals on Friday, March 6, hosted by the highest remaining seed, with the championship game set for Saturday, March 7. The tournament winner will receive the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional.

(5) | Findlay Oilers (17-11, 11-9 G-MAC)

2026 Findlay Basketball Coaching Staff

The 2025-26 Findlay Oilers men's basketball team has had a roller-coaster season heading into the conference tournament. They burst out of the gates to a hot 8-2 start, looking like true title contenders. However, a late-season slip against conference opponents brought them back to a point of fighting to earn a berth into the postseason.

Despite the mid-season woes, the Oilers regained their footing at the perfect time. They closed out the regular season with two momentum-building victories. First, they went on the road to secure a gritty 71-68 comeback win over Hillsdale after trailing by 12 points. They followed that up with a statement 80-61 blowout at home against Ashland, dominating the second half 45-18 to head into the postseason riding high.

As they enter the G-MAC Tournament, Findlay will lean heavily on its core playmakers. Senior Mekhi Elmore paces the offense with 11.9 points per game, while junior Anthony Johnson orchestrates the floor, adding 10.8 points and a team-high 83 assists. Senior Mason Brandt provides crucial consistency with 10.4 points and a team-leading 5.8 rebounds per game, alongside reliable depth from players like Jake Bishop (5.8 ppg). If they can maintain their recent defensive intensity, the Oilers have the firepower for a deep tournament run.
