Oilers Rebound with Doubleheader Sweep of Lake Erie

Monroe, Ohio- The University of Findlay softball team took both games from Lake Erie College on Sunday, March 29 at Monroe High School. The Oilers opened the day with a dominant 10-0 win in five innings before securing a 7-3 victory in extra innings to complete the day. With the two wins, Findlay improves to 20-8 overall and 5-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play, while Lake Erie drops to 1-17 on the season and 0-6 in conference action.

Game One (W 10-0)
Findlay wasted no time, plating three early runs to set the tone. Senior Annika Bredel opened the scoring with a solo home run to left center. Later in the inning, a single from Joslynne Frazier set the stage for freshman Sophie Retton, who tripled to right field to bring in a run. Retton then scored on a single to right by junior Anna Jones.

Findlay then retired the first three Storm batters and went right back to work at the plate. The inning was highlighted by a three-run home run from junior Joslynne Frazier, giving the Oilers a 6-0 lead through two.

Both teams were held scoreless until Findlay broke through again in the fourth, adding three more runs. Frazier doubled to right field to drive in one before Jones followed with a two-run single up the middle, pushing the lead to 9-0. The Oilers added one more in the fifth as sophomore Kenzie Woods homered to left, extending the advantage to 10-0 and securing the run-rule victory.

Senior Alexys Antal was dominant in the circle for Findlay allowing just one hit and no runs. She struck out five to pick up her eighth win of the year, moving to 8-2 on the season. This marks the eighth shutout of her career, just one shy of the program record of nine held by both Stacy Sharp (2000-03) and Nicole Frazier (2000-02).

Offensively, Frazier led the way with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, driving in four runs and scoring three times. Jones added a 2-for-3 effort with three RBI, while Bredel also went 3-for-3 at the plate and crossed the plate three times.

Game Two (W 7-3)
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings before the Oilers broke through in the third. Sophomore Hailey Dee drew a walk, stole second, and came around to score on a single by Antal.

Lake Erie responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth, using three hits to take a 3-1 lead. Findlay answered in the sixth as sophomore Meghan Heinsman launched a two-run home run to tie the game at 3-3.

After a scoreless seventh forced extra innings, the Oilers took control in the eighth. A leadoff single came around to score on Heinsman's double, giving Findlay a 4-3 edge. Senior Kora Navarro followed with a two-run double down the left field line to extend the lead to 6-3, and a sacrifice fly by Antal capped the inning at 7-3.

Findlay then retired the Storm in order in the bottom half to secure the win.

Heinsman led the offense with two hits in four at-bats, driving in three runs and scoring twice. Antal added two RBI on one hit, while Navarro recorded two RBI on a pair of hits.

Freshman Kaylynn Carter got the start in the circle for the Oilers, working the first five innings. She allowed three runs on six hits, walking one and striking out four. Alexys Antal came on in relief and tossed the final three innings to earn the win, improving to 9-2 on the year. She surrendered just one hit while striking out two.

Findlay returns to action Friday, April 3, hosting Northwood. First pitch is set for 12 pm and 2 pm.
