Softball Takes Two from the Timberwolves

Findlay, Ohio- The University of Findlay softball team swept Northwood on Friday, April 3 at Anderson Field, taking game one 7-3 and game two 4-2. With the wins, the Oilers extend their streak to four straight and improve to 22-8 overall and 7-2 in Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) play. Northwood falls to 10-15 on the year and 4-6 in conference action.

Game One (W 7-3)
Both teams were held scoreless through the first two innings before Findlay broke through in the bottom of the third, capitalizing on a Timberwolves error to bring Annika Bredel home.

The Oilers extended their lead in the fourth with a four-run inning. Junior Anna Jones sparked the rally with a double to left center, followed by a Meghan Heinsman double that plated Jones to make it 2-0. Jenna Poulson then reached on a bunt that resulted in an error, allowing Heinsman to score and push the lead to three. The inning was capped by freshman Jenna Dee, who launched a home run to right center to give the Orange and Black a 5-0 advantage.

Northwood responded with two runs in the top of the fifth to cut into the deficit, but Findlay answered in the bottom half as junior Joslynne Frazier launched a home run to keep the Timberwolves at bay.

The teams traded runs in the sixth inning before Findlay shut down Northwood in the seventh to secure the 7-3 victory.

Frazier led the offense with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, adding an RBI and a run scored. Senior Alexys Antal also contributed, going 2-for-4 with an RBI, including a double. Dee drove in a team-high two runs with her home run.

Antal earned the win in the circle, improving to 10-2 on the season. The left-hander threw a complete game, giving up just three runs on seven hits while striking out five.

Game Two (W 4-2)

Findlay picked up right where they left off, as senior Alexys Antal led off the game with a home run to right center on Northwood's first pitch. Later in the inning, freshman Jenna Dee's double brought in a second run, giving the Oilers an early 2-0 lead.

The second and third innings were scoreless before Antal added another run in the bottom of the fourth with a single to center, extending Findlay's lead to 3-0. Northwood responded with two runs in the top of the sixth to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Antal's sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning put the Oilers back ahead 4-2.

Needing just three outs to secure the win, Findlay got the first on a foul out, then senior Annika Bredel turned a clutch double play to end the game, giving the Oilers the 4-2 victory.

Antal led the charge with three RBI on two hits in three at-bats, scoring a run. Dee recorded Findlay's other RBI. Sophomore Kenzie Woods was a perfect three-for-three from the plate.

Senior Kayla Dykin earned the win, pitching a complete seven innings for Findlay. She allowed just two runs on three hits, improving her record to 5-3 on the season.
