Melbourne, Fla.- The University of Findlay softball team continued play at the Space Coast Games on Wednesday, March 4, picking up wins over the University of Charleston and Roosevelt University. With the victories, the Oilers improved to 10-1 on the season and extended their winning streak to eight games.
Game One vs. Charleston (W 5-2)
Findlay erased an early two-run deficit and pulled away for a 5-2 victory over Charleston, a regular East Region competitor. With the loss, the Mountain East Conference (MEC) squad falls to 8-7 on the season.
The Golden Eagles struck first in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run home run to right field following a triple, taking an early 2-0 lead.
The Oilers answered in the top of the fourth with a three-run surge to flip the game. After sophomore Meghan Heinsman doubled to ignite the inning and freshman Jenna Dee singled to put runners at the corners, senior Alexys Antal ripped a two-run double to left center to score both runners and tie it at 2-2. Moments later, Findlay took the lead when Kora Navarro reached on a fielding error and Antal came around to score, making it 3-2 in favor of the Orange and Black.
Findlay added breathing room an inning later. Heinsman doubled again and eventually moved to third before Antal reached on an error, setting the stage for junior Anna Jones, who drilled a two-run double to right center to bring home both runners and push the Oilers' lead to 5-2.Â
The Oilers were led by Heinsman, who recorded three hits in four at-bats, including two for extra bases, while scoring two runs. Antal and Jones each drove in two runs for Findlay, both coming on doubles.
Antal earned the win in the circle, improving to 3-1 on the season. She tossed six innings, allowing two runs on two hits. Antal recorded one strikeout and issued one walk. Senior Kayla Dykin entered in relief to pitch the final inning, allowing just one hit.

Findlay took control early and cruised to a 9-3 win over Roosevelt, securing an in-region victory. With the loss, the Lakers of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) fall to 6-10 on the season.
After a scoreless opening inning, the Oilers broke through in the bottom of the second when senior Alexys Antal doubled and later scored alongside freshman Kaylynn Carter on a two-run triple by senior Aurora Lescody down the right-field line.
Findlay added to its lead in the third inning as senior Annika Bredel led off with a double and later scored on an RBI double by sophomore Meghan Heinsman. Freshman Jenna Dee followed with an RBI single, and the Oilers added two more runs later in the inning when a ball put in play by Joslynne Frazier resulted in a fielder's choice and a throwing error that allowed Antal and J. Dee to cross the plate.
Roosevelt cut into the deficit in the top of the fifth with three runs, but the Oilers responded right away in the bottom half of the inning. Hailey Dee drove in a run with a single before Cassie Warner added an RBI single to extend the lead. Findlay added one more insurance run in the sixth when Lescody drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing in H. Dee and helping secure the 9-3 victory.
