The Dynasty Continues | Women's Golf Wins Eighth Consecutive G-MAC Title

Florence, Ind.- The University of Findlay women's golf team secured its eighth consecutive Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championship in program history, defeating the Ashland Eagles in the medal match play finale on Friday, April 17. Due to weather, the championship match was moved up and played immediately following the conclusion of stroke play earlier in the day. Findlay claimed the title with a 4.5-0.5 victory in the head-to-head format. In medal match play, players are paired individually, with one golfer from Findlay competing against one from Ashland, and the lowest score in each pairing determining the winner of the match.

The Oilers wrapped up the stroke play portion of the tournament in the morning, securing the top seed after a final round of 291 (+7). Combined with earlier rounds of 291 (+7) and 292 (+8), Findlay finished with a 54-hole total of 874 (+22), defeating Ashland by 33 strokes.

Findlay, who has held the individual title for the last seven seasons, did see that streak come to end as Walsh's Sydney Hugo captured the medalist honors after closing the tournament with a tournament low round of 66 (-5). The Oilers did however land four players in the top-five as sophomore Gracie James was runner-up, seniors Hayley Dye and Ellie Yeazell tied for third and junior Ashleigh Duflo took fifth.

James capped off her debut at the conference tournament with a final-round 70 (-1), finishing with rounds of 70 (-1), 79 (+7), and 70 (-1) for a 54-hole total of 218 (+5). Yeazell posted rounds of 75 (+4), 71 (E), and 74 (+3) to finish at 220 (+7), while Dye concluded her final conference tournament with scores of 71 (E), 74 (+3), and 76 (+5) also for a 54-hole total of 220 (+7).

Facing the Eagles in medal match play, Ellie Yeazell led things off for the Orange and Black. Her match remained tightly contested throughout, with neither player gaining more than a two-shot advantage. After a challenging 16th hole, the match stood tied with two to play. Yeazell delivered a birdie on 17 while her opponent recorded a bogey, creating a pivotal swing. Despite a bogey on the final hole, she held on for the win, carding a 73 (+2) to edge Ashland's Zoe Mort, who finished with a 74 (+3).

Next up was junior Ashleigh Duflo, who delivered a dominant nine-stroke victory over Ashland's Klaira Paramore, firing a 67 (-3), the lowest medal match play score on the day.

With the Oilers leading 2-0, Findlay needed just one more win to secure the championship, and Hayley Dye provided it. Dye carded a 78 (+7) to outlast Ashland's Leeann Harker, who finished with an 81 (+10).

Findlay added another point in the following match as sophomore Gracie James secured a three-stroke victory. After building a lead as large as six shots, she closed with a 76 (+5) to defeat Ashland's Gracyn Vidovic, who shot a 79 (+8).

Freshman Emma Myers split her match with Ashland's Anna Machamer, as both players recorded rounds of 75 (+4).

This win is Findlay's eighth consecutive Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship and ninth consecutive conference championship to date back to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC).

Findlay will return to action on Monday, May 4, when it hosts the NCAA East Regional, a three-day event held at Findlay Country Club, in hopes to continue their journey to the 2025 NCAA Division II National Championship.
